WHO: John Mackey, co-founder, chief executive officer, and board chairman of Whole Foods Market, Inc.

EDUCATION: Studied philosophy at the University of Texas in Austin, but dropped out of college six times.

WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW: Although Mackey is otherwise vegan, he eats eggs from the free-range, organic-fed chickens he raises.

PERSONAL: Mackey and his wife, Deborah, live on a 720-acre ranch west of Austin, Texas. They practice yoga and meditation.
